Domain Overview

Review a domain's rankings, competing pages, and keyword gaps.

Open Domain Overview

Domain Overview, the PirateSERP tool for competitive search research, reports what a domain ranks for in a selected market, which of its pages bring the traffic, which domains compete with it, and the keywords each named competitor ranks for that the domain does not. Search data is included with your subscription, so you don't need a separate data-provider key.

Run a lookup

  1. Select the project. Domain Overview fills the form from your project:
    • Domain takes your primary Rank Tracker target, or your project's website when the project has no Rank Tracker targets.
    • Competitors (optional, up to 5, comma-separated) takes up to five of your Rank Tracker competitor targets.
    • Market takes the primary Rank Tracker target's market.
  2. Review Domain, or enter a domain such as example.com.
  3. Review Competitors (optional, up to 5, comma-separated), or enter up to five domains, such as rival.com, other.com.
  4. Choose Market and Language.
  5. Click Run Domain Overview.

Domain Overview does not support Catalan, and it rejects a Catalan lookup before it runs. Choose another language for a Catalan-speaking market. Read Languages for other language limits.

Ranking data refreshes weekly. Looking up the same domain and market again within a week returns the saved result.

Review the report

The report heading names the domain, market, and language.

  • Ranked keywords, Keywords in top 3, and Keywords in top 10 compare the domain's ranking coverage.
  • Est. monthly visits and Traffic value per month are estimates, not measured website traffic.
  • Keywords by position groups rankings into #1, #2-3, #4-10, #11-20, and #21+. The line under the chart counts keywords that are new, up, down, or lost since last week.
  • Top ranked keywords lists each keyword with its Position, Volume, Difficulty, Intent, Est. visits, and ranking Page. A badge beside a keyword marks a recent ranking change. A keyword that ranks with two pages appears on two rows. Click Export CSV to download the list.
  • Top pages lists the pages that bring the domain's estimated search traffic, with Keywords, Top 3, Top 10, and Est. visits for each page.
  • Competitors lists competing domains with Shared keywords, Avg. position, Their keywords, and Their est. visits. The competitors you entered carry a named badge.

Click the arrow beside a named competitor to open the keywords that competitor ranks for and your domain does not, with Their position, Volume, Difficulty, Intent, and Their est. visits. Each gap keyword marks a topic where the competitor earns search traffic and your domain does not.

The keyword, page, and gap lists each show up to 20 entries, not every ranking URL. When one section fails to load, it displays an error while the other sections keep their data.

Reopen results

Past lookups lists every lookup in the active project, with its date and time. Click an entry to reopen its saved report, or click the delete icon to remove it. Opening a past lookup while another lookup runs does not cancel that run; the running lookup still finishes and appears in Past lookups.

If the report shows No ranking data, check the spelling of the domain, or try another market. Missing data does not establish that the domain has no traffic.

Continue your research

Look up the gap keywords in Keyword Research to compare their volume and difficulty in your market. Compare the same domains' link profiles in Backlinks, and track your positions for the keywords you target in Rank Tracker.
