GeoPin Generator

Check local rankings across an area and compare competitors at each location.

Open GeoPin Generator

GeoPin Generator, the PirateSERP local rank grid, checks one keyword at 25 map points in a 5 x 5 grid around a center location and shows your target's rank and the competing businesses at each point. GeoPin Generator needs no separate data-provider key.

Prepare a check

  1. Switch to the project you want from the header, and choose a Business location when the form offers one.
  2. Enter Keyword to check and Target URL. The target matches partially, so a domain such as example.com matches any page on it.
  3. Set Radius (miles) to a value greater than 0 and no more than 50 miles.
  4. Confirm Grid size: 5 x 5 - 25 points.
  5. Choose Results: Google Maps - local finder ranking or Organic search - target URL position.
  6. Review SERP language. SERP checks shows that 25 points equal 25 rank checks.
  7. Under Location, set the center point: click the map, enter an address and click Search, or enter Latitude and Longitude.
  8. Click Preview on Map and confirm the grid covers the area you want. Click Clear Preview to start over.
  9. Click Check Rankings. Keep the tab open until the progress bar finishes.

The project's business profile can fill the target and the address. Confirm the actual map location before you check. The center point must sit between -85 and 85 degrees latitude. Grid points that fall past 85 degrees latitude stay at 85 degrees, and grid points past the 180th meridian wrap to the other side.

For Google Maps, enter the domain that the business listing links to. A listing without a website cannot match a domain target.

Read the grid

Each grid point turns a color by rank: Top 3, 4-10, 11-20, or Not found (20+). Not found means the target did not appear in the top 20 results at that point. Click a point to see its rank and the results found there.

Review the four summary figures together:

  • Visibility score weights every point by rank, from 100% at rank 1 down to 5% at rank 20 and 0 when not found.
  • Avg rank covers only the points where the target was found, and its label states how many points that is.
  • Top 3 and Top 10 count the points at those ranks.

Competitive landscape ranks the businesses found in the top 20 across the grid by visibility, with their point count, average rank, best rank, rating, and domain. Click View on grid to color the map by one competitor's ranks, and click Back to your target to return.

Visibility by distance groups points into rings from the center and shows the average rank and found count in each ring. The rings describe sampled search visibility, not the business's actual service boundary.

Finish an incomplete check

A check is incomplete when some points return no result, for example after a slow response or a lost connection. The result shows Incomplete with the number of locations checked, and the check stays saved with the points that finished.

Click Resume next to Incomplete to collect the missing points. For a saved check, click View in Past Checks first. Resume checks only the missing points: finished points are kept, and points whose results are still pending are collected instead of checked again. Compare the checked location count before you compare an incomplete score with a full grid.

Reopen or repeat a check

Past Checks lists every check in the active project with its keyword, result type, grid, visibility, average rank, and an Incomplete note when points are missing.

  • Click View to reopen a check on the map.
  • Click the Re-run check control to run the same center, radius, target, keyword, grid, result type, and language again.
  • Click the delete control to remove a check.

Keep the same grid, radius, result type, language, and target when you compare checks over time. Use Rank Tracker to follow a keyword's position in one market every day or week.
